Treat Yo’ Self-Love + Event

Have you ever walked out of a dressing room and felt so defeated? I have. Honestly, almost every time I go in, I come out shaming my body for it not fitting the clothes I wanted or the style that another girl was wearing. We all do that right? Try to buy the clothes off another woman’s BODY. What happens then? We get in a fitting room and realize it doesn’t fit over our thighs, or our muffin top shows, or maybe we don’t fill out the bust. Every woman’s body is different, so every woman’s style should be too. It is time we step up and shop and wear clothes that are made for our own bodies and that match who WE are.

“To me, clothing is a form of self-expression – there are hints about who you are in what you wear.” – Marc Jacobs

“Style is a way to say who you are without having to speak” Rachel Zoe

I understand that the best way to see new styles is to look at trends and see them worn, I know that fashion is queen and in the NOW. But I learned a little something about style from a few of the most stylish girls I know Aika, Molly, and Rebecca ; Style is less about others and more about YOU. If you dress for what you love and portray yourself, you never have to worry about being fashionable, because you already are stylish. Most trend watchers I know look for colors, fabrics, fits, and a few fun trendy additions to bump up their already established style. It isn’t about curating, it is about expressing ones self.

“Style is something each of us already has, all we need to do is find it.”

Diane von Furstenberg

“Style is very personal. It has nothing to do with fashion. Fashion is over quickly. Style is forever.”- Ralph Lauren

Many of you know me as the fitness lover, foodie, and more fitness…but I am a style lover. Always have been, since I was rocking stripe on stripe combos with a black brimmed hat and a pair of Adidas shell toes (90’s FOREVER) sounds pretty crazy right? The style I wore then I get to wear again. Seattle was the place to be in the 90’s. Style was everywhere and you could wear whatever you wanted to express yourself. I wore them all from overalls with a strap down, Jnco, bandanas, wind breakers, ripped jeans, Doc’s, plaid, layering, mid drift graphic tees with a flannel,  Chucks, BRANDED EVERYTHING, to baby doll dresses and catholic school girl skirts, knee highs to Mary Jane platforms. You guys, I even did blue and green hair! I secretly not so secretly want lavender hair NOW. I lived and breathed the trends.

‘Don’t be into trends. Don’t make fashion own you, but you decide what you are, what you want to express by the way you dress and the way you live.’ – Gianni Versace

“Clothes aren’t going to change the world, the women who wear them will” – Anne Klein

When I became a mom at the young age of 19, style kinda went out the window for me. I never found it again until moving back to Seattle in 2012. Having kids had made my body not so comfy to dress. I only felt comfortable in my skin after my second child for a few years. When I was a size 0-2. I felt like I final hit the Kate Moss body jackpot. (downside of being a girl in the 90’s) At 5’8 that wasn’t the ideal mentality. As many of you know, I struggled with anorexia from about 11-13yrs old because super thin models in magazines were all the rage. It was hard to be a girl developing a new body. Much like it is hard to be a woman with a changing body. Fast forward to now, I am no where near my “normal” size but I actually love my body now. Because it can do things I had no clue it could it! I have run 6 half marathons, 3 mud runs, birthed 3 babies, my body is worth loving and pampering too. I strongly believe how we treat ourselves is the measure at which we can treat and love others, so get to treat yo’ self girl!! That beautiful body of yours is truly special and no matter what imperfections you have, it is worth loving RIGHT THIS SECOND. I love that I have the confidence to be myself and my style is starting to re immerge.

“Fashion is what you’re offered four times a year by designers. And style is what you choose.” – Lauren Hutton

“The fashionable woman wears clothes. The clothes don’t wear her.” – Mary Quant

I have never felt better in my skin. Yes, I know I still need to work on a few areas, but that is why a healthy diet and fitness routine are so important. The very best way we can love on our bodies it to nourish them and keep them active. I feel the most confident when I know I put good effort in and I see the changes. Work hard and rock every item you wear. Your body needs you to love it, just the way it is. Be kind to it, treat it with respect, and let your personal style shine through! Now go get you some clothes that FIT YOUR BODY. If you are a local you can come learn the Spring styles right along with me at my Treat Yo’ Self-Love event ( details below) and pamper your precious body with good vibes and try on beautiful clothes!
